Life Lately

I’m sitting here staring at the cursor like the words are going to type themselves. I’ve diagnosed myself with writer’s block. It’s a real thing, ya know. You know what else is a real thing? Perimenopause. I’m not gonna subject you to the details, but I have it. It may take me down! Surely it’s contributing to my writer’s block too. I get overwhelmed so easily and my mind shuts down.

My creative gene may have taken a sabbatical, but I did want to share a life update with you…

My Book. This is the No. 1 question people ask me. What have I heard about my book. The answer is, nothing new. It is still in the illustrations department. I’ve not seen the first set of proofs. I promise you’ll know when I do! It’s crazy. Sometimes I forget I have a book coming out. I get excited all over again when I think about it! My life could look very different this fall. I hope my life looks very different this fall. Stay tuned.

The Boys. There’s not a ton to report. JP is doing really well. He’s been attending a new church on Wednesdays with a friend. (Remember Laurie? We call her his emotional support person 😆. We also call her Larry, but that’s another story). The youth group is made up of around one hundred fifty teenagers. The fact that JP goes is miraculous! Preston is good. He has pink hair. His baseball team played in a tournament Mother’s Day weekend. A few of the players decided to dye their hair pink to match their socks and arm sleeves. One used gel. Another used spray. Preston used permanent dye. Both boys are sailing through school with no issues. Preston is currently on the waiting list to get back into public school for seventh grade. We have very mixed feelings. We gave him the option. He’ll never admit that he has mixed feelings too. Jackson is starting preschool in the fall. That’s all I’m gonna say about that. I don’t want to cry again today. Remember how I have Perimenopause? Yeah, I cry a LOT.

Family Stuff. The rest of us are doing okay. Jack is still working full time – he seems to love it, go figure. Faye teaches once in a while and keeps me sane with my jobs. Laurie keeps up with all of Preston’s shenanigans (a full time position) while fine tuning her newfound love of art.

We’ve been dealing with an (outside) issue as a family for a few months that has drained us emotionally. As hard as it’s been, the circumstances have reminded me of how blessed I am. Blessed is such a generic, overused (and sometimes annoying) word, but it’s true. I’m grateful to God for His grace and thankful for the crazy group of humans I call family.

We joined a new homeschool co-op group that meets every Friday. Preston has made a few really good friends there.

The rest of life (lately) in photos…

Kenzie graduated high school! Being there took me back twenty eight years to the time I had exactly zero cords adorning my gown. But hey, I got a diploma! That counts for something, right?!
All the babies love Papa Jack 🤍

I cannot believe it’s June. I wish time would slow down. I’m so, so thankful it’s not been too hot. I’m sure it’s coming. When the temperatures rise, you will find us indoors, in the pool, or in a mountain swimming hole.

Nanny, Laurie, and Preston are leaving this weekend for a week at the beach. I’m not jealous this time. Staying home with Jack and JP will be a vacation for me – two of the most low maintenance people!
