We Love Halloween + Other Stuff

I love October. Clearly the boys are too old for trick-or-treating, but we’re constantly seeking spooky fun this time of year.

Last weekend we went to Madworld. I wrote a review for Greenville. You can read it here. *Spoiler alert: only two of us made it through. I bought a ‘No Scare’ medallion. The group pushed me to the front of the line and stuck to me like leaches.

We’ve also been doing a ton of research on local cemeteries. Some of them scare, sadden, and madden me all at the same time. You can read Part One of that story here. Definitely check it out if you’re interested in the old mill neighborhoods. I had no idea the mills had graveyards. Makes sense. We were just astounded at their condition.

We recently fell in love with a new deli. Well, it’s new to us. It’s been around for quite a while.

Not fancy but very fascinating. Classic Deli & Catering, 1411 Grove Road, is the equivalent of walking through your grandma’s basement or attic.

We’ve already been back. The first time (pictured above) I got the tuna salad. It was yummy. This week, I ordered pimento cheese. Also good, but I liked the tuna better. Next time, I’m having the Reuben. Mom, Rose and Lynne all loved it.

JP is having a really hard time right now with his anxiety. All of us are exhausted. The only thing worse than going thru trials is watching your children go thru trials. You understand. We’ve all been there. It breaks my heart into one bazillion pieces. In the newsletter this month, we’re obviously focusing on spooky stuff. Next month, our first issue is titled, “Why I’m Thankful For My Divorce.” I talk in depth about feelings I’ve experienced over the years while navigating JP through his emotions. (Subscribe here).

We recently learned that there is a South Carolina Room at the library downtown. This has opened up a whole new world of research for us! Boxes full of old newspaper clippings and stories – a writer’s dream!

Book update: there’s not one. I sent the design team my ideas for the layout. They ultimately come up with the design. Once it’s done, they send it to me to approve. That’s all I’m waiting on. I forget about it most days – lol – it’s such a long process. In the meantime, we’re still working on my two other manuscripts. I’ve rejoined a critique group and I’m super excited! I’ll be carrying my divorce story to them. Their input will be invaluable.

I guess that’s it for now. The weekend will be full of baseball and sunshine!
