Those of you who know me will NOT be surprised to learn that it is December 6, and we STILL do not have a Christmas tree.
I’ll give you a minute to take that in.

Here’s the bottom line. I do love Christmas. I enjoy taking part in all the experiences associated with the holiday. We drive around to see lights and attend the city’s tree lighting festivities. We sit in the cold and freeze our @$$es off to see multiple parades. We watch all the Hallmark movies, attend all the church services, and drink all the cider and hot chocolate. What I DO NOT like is decorating the house for (less than) one month for literally zero people to see. I know this sounds crazy to most of you. I get it. Despite our domestic disdain, we’ve set out Christmas trinkets for YEARS so the boys would have some semblance of “magic” around the house. Now that they are teens, they care even less than we do!
They do not sit with us in the living room.
They do not help decorate.
They care deeply about their gifts. And that’s normal and okay.
So, what’s the point?
I am not being negative. I’m looking forward to this weekend, full of holiday STUFF! I just dread the act of putting up a tree and decorating.
The jury is still out. Once the boys are home, we’ll talk with them. If they want to find a tree and put out all the decorations, we certainly will.
But, if it’s left up to me…
