Brunch At Hen Mother Cookhouse

A tiny bit of history…

Hen Mother Cookhouse opened its second location inside the historic Jones House on South Main Street in downtown Alpharetta. Originally built in 1914, the house once belonged to William and May Jones. They also owned Jones Grocery on the corner across the street. After the family moved out (and following the death of William and May), the property became a series of businesses over the years.

In the middle of 2010, Alpharetta City Center developers (thankfully) chose to restore and repurpose the house rather than demolish it. Another reason I love this town – they care about family and they care about history.

Our experience…

People were EVERYWHERE – we got there a little after noon (remember how we slept till 9:45). Even with the packed house, our wait time was under fifteen minutes.

The inside gave off serious Apple Barn vibes. My Pigeon Forge families know what I’m talking about. The room was a little loud but, TRUST ME, you will not care!

Fun Fact: Some of their dishes were gifted to them by customers.

I ordered Breakfast Tacos, my two favorite things in the world on one plate! They did not disappoint.

Mom ordered the Quiche of the Day which was more of a tomato pie. She loved it.

The portions were HUGE, unlike the prices. Don’t quote me on this, but I don’t remember seeing anything over $20.

We both wanted to taste the pancakes and were prepared to order the entree. Our server warned us about the size of the pancakes, saying no one finishes the order of two. He suggested a side of one pancake as an “add on” for us to share. That was much cheaper.

Oh my gosh. I’ve never eaten a pancake like that. It was SUPER thick (which I typically don’t like) but tasted like fluffy, buttery air. Unbelievably good.

We made it home! Personally, I’m looking forward to not driving anywhere for a while (or at least until Friday 😆).

I hope you guys had a fantastic weekend! If you have specific questions or inquiries about Alpharetta, Avalon, or any of the spots I highlighted, don’t hesitate to shoot me an email.
