I don’t make resolutions because I never follow through. Having said that, I do have a few goals I am going to try my best to reach this year.
- Merge my people.
Allyson hosted a New Year’s Eve party with a big guest list. By the end of the night, the crowd had thinned to just me, Laurie, JP, Heather, Cassie, Ken and his girls, Allyson and Jeff. Watching Heather blend into this part of my family made me pause. Allyson is my cousin, and Heather has been my best friend since I was eleven—how have we never hung out like this before? Lots of special people are a part of my life, and I’m sure they would enjoy “hanging” as a group sometime. I’ve decided that I’m going to make an effort to merge my friend groups. - Walk.
Once upon a time, I walked at Furman every week. Sometimes every day. I miss it. If I sit anywhere for any length of time, I turn into an eighty seven year old woman when I attempt to stand again. I’m forty-eight and my body is failing me. That is just ridiculous! I have several routes mapped out on a walking app. My goal is to start using them again. - Say NO.
This one doesn’t really need an explanation. I think 2026 is going to be the Year Of No for me. My plate is SO full. I disassociate daily because I have too much to do and not enough brain cells to carry out my tasks. Adding more things is no longer an option. I’m probably going to turn into that “accept-the-invitation-then-back-out-at-the-last-minute” girl. I’m hoping no one takes it personally. I want to stay home more. Sleep in more (when I’m able) and drown myself in books. Sounds good, right?
