We set out Thursday morning for Dupont State Forest in Cedar Mountain, North Carolina. Nanny was with us, so we were looking for a short hike with no hills and lots of waterfalls!
Hooker Falls was exactly what we had in mind.
Once again, we were thankful for our packs from Mast General Store. And we’re going to pretend they were filled with sensible items needed for a day trip in the mountains. (All you parents out there know the real story!)
There’s a sign (right above the one that says ‘Do Not Enter’) that warns visitors not to climb on the rocks around the falls. Do you think that stopped anyone?!? It drove me crazy! The group who showed up a few minutes after us were having a blast climbing and taking pictures. I was scared just watching them. Kids these days! Except they weren’t kids. They were young though – maybe in their twenties. Geez, when did I grow up…or get old?
There are bathrooms at the parking lot and then another set a few feet from the falls. We let the kids change into their bathing suits because we knew better than to expect them to stay dry.
The water was FREEZING and Preston turned a permanent shade of blue. I swear his pulse faded in and out until we eventually decided it would be best for him to get out.
Sorry kid, but all the electronics in the world can’t touch this scene.
We also visited Looking Glass Falls during this trip. I’ll post those photos one day next week.
I am so glad it’s Friday. I’m working a little later tonight so that I can completely veg out the rest of the weekend. That, and the internet was out ALL MORNING and I got behind. We’ve got a busy couple of weeks coming up, which should provide me with tons of content to share with you. I’m also excited about a few upcoming changes with the blog. Check back Monday for more on that!
I hope you guys have a fabulous weekend surrounded by friends and family!
