In honor of Throw Back Thursday, I’m throwing things way back today. If you follow me on social media, you know that a couple of months ago I spent the weekend in the mountains with some girlfriends of mine. We stayed in a small cabin at Highland Lake Inn & Resort. The weekend was beautiful and peaceful from start to finish and it is definitely on my list of places I want to return to – probably in the very near future. In fact, the best thing about it was the location. From my house in Greenville (sandwiched between downtown Greenville and Travelers Rest) it’s about a 30 minute drive.
Now that most of my Saturday mornings are reserved for Little League baseball, this is the absolute perfect road trip destination for us. I can book a Friday/Saturday night and easily make it to a ball game by mid-morning before returning in the afternoon/early evening.
We stayed in one of the small one bedroom cabins on the left as you turn onto the property. Can you say cozy? I honestly felt like I was 1,000 miles away from home. There’s a swing on every porch.
Let’s face it, if I can’t be sitting on an island overseas, a porch swing in the mountains is a not-too-shabby 2nd.
There was also a couple of rope swings hanging from the big tree in the open field across the street from our cabin. We made good use of them too – nothing makes you feel more like a kid than swinging from a tree.
I didn’t get pictures of the inside of our room – don’t ask me why, obviously I do not think clearly when I’m on a road trip. There was a king bed, one twin, a couple of chairs, a fireplace and full bath. This is not the destination to bring a car-load of kiddos, but it was the perfect size for two or three people. The room was quaint and inviting.
I can’t wait to take JP. He will D.I.E over the petting farm.
There are canoes you can take out on the lake for no charge, if you’re a guest.
You guys know how much I LOVE breakfast food… well, Highland Lake Inn has an amazing breakfast buffet for a very reasonable price!
After you book your room for the weekend, we can talk activities. There is a very yummy pizza place nearby in Hendersonville that serves up way more than pizza (review coming soon).
My girls and I took off further up the mountain for the day. We had absolutely no plan and no time frame – my kind of weekend.
Our adventures led us to Black Mountain and lunch at the Ale House.
That would be a blue cheese steak and sweet potato fries on my plate. Please and thank you.
Like I said, you can go ahead and look forward to more pictures of Highland Lake in the next few months, I am really looking forward to our next stay!
